Dimples Bakeware wins Entrepreneur Pitch Competition in Ashland
Cookie sheet entrepreneur receives prize to grow his business
ASHLAND, Ky. (June 4, 2014) – A northeastern Kentucky entrepreneur has received a significant boost in growing his business.
Charles Black presented his idea, Dimples Bakeware, to a panel of local judges during the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development’s entrepreneur pitch competition in Ashland. For his award-winning idea, Black received a cash prize and the opportunity to present his business to the Kentucky Angel Investors Network in Frankfort later this year.
“The state and the Kentucky Innovation Network have been a tremendous help to me,” said Black. “I am now very close to achieving my lifelong business dream.”
Dimples Bakeware sells a patented cookie sheet that uses “steam-safe” technology. This allows cookies to bake evenly on both sides without sticking to the pan. The sheets also double as cooling racks.
Black was one of seven entrepreneurs to participate in Tuesday’s competition. Participants had 10 minutes to present their business idea to the judges.
“It was exciting to see all the high quality businesses in the area pitch in front of local judges,” said Mick Fosson, director of the Kentucky Innovation Network office in Ashland. “I want to congratulate Dimples Bakeware on its presentation, and I look forward to watching this innovative company grow.”
Ashland was the first stop on the competition circuit. Events also will be held in Pikeville, Murray, Elizabethtown, Richmond, Covington, Lexington and Louisville later this summer.
The event is sponsored by the Office of Entrepreneurship within the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development, along with the Kentucky Angels Network and the Kentucky Innovation Network. For more information on the competition, visit kyinnovation.com
Last year, the Cabinet successfully launched the Kentucky Angel Investors Network. Kentucky Angels brings new ventures and accredited investors together via monthly online meetings, providing investors access to form deals and partnerships with entrepreneurs statewide. Membership is open to those accredited investors in and outside the state who are passionate about investing in Kentucky companies. To learn more about Kentucky Angels, visit www.kyangels.net
