Cruising at five miles per second, it only takes KySat-2 93 minutes to orbit the Earth. Constructed by students at the University of Kentucky and Morehead State University as a collaboration with the non-profit Kentucky Space, the small satellite was launched Nov. 19, 2013. The device is powered by solar panels, allowing it to gather and transmit data.

KySat-2 was an item included in the KET special “A History of Kentucky in 25 Objects.” For a list of other items, or to watch the entire episode, please visit http://www.ket.org/promos/kentucky/hi….
