Space Design Lab to Open in Downtown Lexington

Space Tango, headquartered in Lexington, KY, today announced that it is opening a Space Design Lab in downtown Lexington. The Lab, expected to open in April 2015, will be located in a historic renovated building at 333 East Short Street.

This facility will further advance the company’s work in small satellites, technology platforms and experiments for the International Space Station (ISS). This includes novel and potentially game changing work in Exomedicine…the research, development and commercialization of medical solutions in the microgravity environment of space for applications on Earth.

The Lab will include engineering, design, testing and biomedical capabilities. It will also provide support and opportunities for emerging space entrepreneurs, including clients of the Kentucky Innovation Network, “makers” and students. The Space Tango facilities are being significantly expanded and upgraded in support of the company’s rapidly growing activities and business in the global entrepreneurial space marketplace. The Lab will also be the engineering hub for Kentucky Space, the R&D and education partner of Space Tango.

“With our business and work in small orbital spacecraft and microgravity R&D on the ISS now growing at such a rapid pace this new Lab has become an absolute necessity,” said Twyman Clements, President of Space Tango.

Space Tango, Inc. (spacetango.com), a for-profit company, strategically utilizes space to discover, design and commercialize innovative solutions for applications on Earth.

Kentucky Space (kentuckyspace.com) is an ambitious nonprofit enterprise focused on R&D, education and entrepreneurial space solutions. The organization has a successful flight and mission heritage involving high-altitude balloons, orbital spacecraft and the International Space Station (ISS).
